Sonamy. Love, war, life 4

The tension in the room was rising with every second of silence. The two males stared at the girls in their blink-less eye contact which had lasted for at least 10 long minutes now.

The half naked girl stood up from her seat and looked the taller woman in the eyes. She ripped the bag from the bat's grasp and shoved passed her. She walked into Sonic's room and slammed the door shut.

Rouge blinked continuously and started shaking.

"Rouge?" Tails asked with concern. "Are you alright? Do you need a drink?" The boy quickly rose from his seat and grabbed a glass. He could hear Rouge hyperventilating. "Sonic, I think she's having a panic attack."

Sonic quickly grabbed a bag and gave it to Rouge. "Breath into the bag Rouge. It'll calm ya down."

Rouge breathed into the bag repeatedly. Her breath slowly came back to her. "I-I'm sorry."
she apologized between breaths.

The blue hedgehog cautiously patted her shoulder for comfort. "It's alright Rouge. That must have been a surprise. I didn't know you and Amy knew each other."

The woman nodded and sighed. "It's a long story. I doubt it would matter if I told you or not, Amy isn't going to talk to me."

Just then, Amy showed up wearing an ill-fitting pink t-shirt and blue shorts. She turned to Rouge and folded her arms.

Sonic and Tails looked at each other then back at Amy. "Well you probably wanna be alone so... tootles!" Sonic said as he and his younger brother fled the scene. They ran into Sonic's room and the blue hedgehog placed his right ear against the wall.

"Sonic!" Tails scowled him. "It's their business!"

The blue boy gazed at his brother and rolled his eyes. "These girls are in our home. Since we live here. It's also our business." He winked and tried to listen.

Tails shook his head in disagreement.

Meanwhile in the kitchen. Amy and Rouge just stared at each other awkwardly. Rouge didn't know whether to speak first or wait for Amy to speak. Either way, it wouldn't end well.

Amy looked at the ground. Tears pricked her eyes. "Why?"

Silence

"WHY ROUGE?!"

The bat closed her eyes solemnly. "I-I'm so sorry."

Before she could open her eyes, she felt a dozen punches hitting her chest. She opened her eyes to see Amy punching her chest plate.

"Why did you do this to me?!" She cried. "I trusted you with my life! You were the only thing I had left. You promised me Rouge! You promised!"

Rouge permitted her tears to fall down her cheeks. "I know I did. I was selfish Amy. I know I was but you have to forgive me! I never meant to hurt you."

Amy closed her eyes tightly as the tears continued to fall. "I WAS TEN YEARS OLD! YOU PROMISED WE'D BE TOGETHER BUT YOU LIED! YOU LEFT ME ON MY OWN!"

"Amy, I couldn't give you a good life. I had no choice-"

"LIAR!" The pink hedgehog cried. "You have no idea what you put me through. I was alone, I had nowhere to go! Do you have any idea how hard it is to find shelter in winter?!"

Rouge watched as the girl that once called her sister fell to her knees, holding onto Rouge's legs as if she was about to be taken. Blubbering like a child.

She had been extremely selfish yet, at the time, it seemed like the right thing to do. This little girl that she once took orders from had become somewhat of a dependent daughter to her. She'd hold her in her arms and tell her they'd be fine. That they'd always have one another.

That was a lie.

The pair were outlaws. Rouge was too young to get a job and Amy? Say no more. With no other family contact, they had to steal to survive.

It was going quite well until one day when Amy had tripped and dropped every piece of stolen jewelry and gem she had. Rouge quickly grabbed her and fled.

They ran into an alley with a dead end. Rouge looked down at Amy who was staring back at her for a solution.

This wasn't suppose to happen. Everything was planned out. It was simple. Only Amy could have ruined it. Even if accidental.

But wasn't she the mother figure. Shouldn't she be the one with the right choices.

She wasn't perfect. Far from it in fact. And the thought of dragging Amy down with her only made her heart split.

She was going to let her go.

For a better life.

Rouge picked up a pile of rubbish bags and pushed a bin out of the way. She placed Amy behind them and stroked her cheek.

"You wait here Amy and keep quiet. I'll be back. I promise." Rouge whispered through her tears.

Lies...

Amy held onto on of Rouge's hands. "Do go Rouge."

Rouge smiled sincerely. "Everything will be okay angel. Just be strong and stay hidden. I will be back for you."

Lies..  

"You promise?"

The bat nodded and kissed the girls forehead. "I promise..."

Lies.

Then she was gone. Forever.

Amy sniffled and held onto Rouge tighter. "You promised me..."

Rouge bit her lip. "I know."

"You said you'd come back for me."

"I know."

Amy looked up at Rouge. "You made my life hell! You forced me to live the way I did! You put me in a life I hated. I was so vulnerable! I had no choice!"

"What do you mean?" Rouge asked.

"You ruined my life with your lies. Why did you do that to me Rouge? I was so young."

Rouge fell to knees and held Amy in her arms. "I'm sorry. Forgive me Amy please!"

A surge of relief ran through the bat as the hedgehog wrapped her arms around her. "I was scared." Amy whispered.

"I'll make it up to you I swear."

Sonic and Tails stepped into the kitchen. They were surprised to see the girls hugging one another in a fit of tears. Well, Sonic wasn't. He had been listening from his bedroom wall.

"Uh... I don't mean to ruin the moment but... we're starving." Sonic said nervously. He was afraid Amy would smack him.

The girls looked up at the boys and smiled. "Sorry." Rouge said as she and Amy stood up and wiped their eyes.

"Are you two friends again?"

Rouge looked at Amy to see her answer. In return, she got a smile. "Yeah... For now. My sister is going to make it up to me."

"You can stay with me if you'd like." Rouge asked. "We can have a party for your welcome."

Amy smiled. "I'm not really keen on parties..."

Sonic grabbed Amy's shoulders. "Nonsense. We'll have a big party just for you. Here! It'll be fun. I'm great at organizing parties!"   

Tails shook his head. I don't think he's lied this much in his entire life!

Amy waved goodbye to Sonic and Tails as she headed home with Rouge. Sonic rested his head against the door and watched as Amy disappeared over the horizon. He sighed.

The fox grinned and walked up to him from behind. Sonic was too busy daydreaming to notice him.

"BOO!" Yelled the younger boy. Sonic jumped.

"What is your problem?!" Sonic yelled at his kid brother.

Tails laughed and walked back inside. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to break you from your love-struck gaze."

Love-whut?

"Tails. I am not in love." Sonic defended himself. Tails' grin widened.

"I never said you were in love. But it's nice of you to share your feelings."

Damn that fox is smart...

Amy entered her new purple and white bedroom. It was very high maintenance for a spare room but it was very well decorated. It was enough for her.

"I hope you like it. I don't usually have people stay here." Rouge said, taking out extra pillows and handing them to Amy. "We'll have to go shopping for essentials and clothes for you too. Especially for this party."

The younger girl sighed and jumped onto her bed. No wet hedgehog smell. Oh yeah, she was going to like it here.

"Don't think you're going to sleep now. We're going shopping!" Rouge said enthusiastically.

"What now?"

"Yes now. We need to get you some new outfits to impress a certain hedgehog." She winked at her sister.

"Oh don't be silly Rouge. I don't even know Sonic."

"Sonic? Who said anything about Sonic?"

Amy blushed and walked out the room. "Let's just go." She mumbled. A laughing Rouge slowly followed.
